He lost the war in France adn all his land in France was captured. During his reign he did not gain any land but lost a lot!
-
-
He raised taxes a lot as he was in war with france. John did this 11 times which is mor than any king before
In Matthew Paris's picture it suggests that king john wasnt fond of churches, was a bit lazy and liked wars. In the picture his crown is tilted, he is sitting on a folding chair and he is sitting infront of the church.
William the conqueror
As soon as he was crowned he had a disanvantage because he didnt know land and the laws as he was from France

He had lots of expirence and skill in war which helped him win the war with Harold Godwinson and secure his place on the throne
He also made laws that wernet welcome like the Forest law which made it illegal for English to hunt in royal forests. For killing a rabbit, a saxon would have two fingers cut off. an englishman who hunted deer could have his eyes gauged out
William was very quick to put down rebellions and he did so harshly. this shows his power. He also built towers to keep control
Edward I
The statue of westninster was a law that criminals that break the law will be put on trial then they will be fined ir punished.
Edward inherited lots of problems from his father, Henry II.
Edward I had lots of power as when more crimes where commited in his time period he made a new law called the statue of westminster
• Edward was also unhappy with how much land his father had lost to his barons so he compromised with them and said that if they could prove they had owned the land for at least 100 years then they could keep it.
• During the 1290s, Edward needed more money to fight in wars but the barons blocked his demands for new taxes so he called new people to Parliament. He gave the commons some power by allowing them to bring concerns to be heard in Parliament. This means counties all over the country could have their concerns heard by the king
Henry II
overtime his power increased ashe had shown he was sorry for Thomas Beckets murder and beat the rest of the rebels.
Henry started many rebellions and in the war in 1173 and 1174 he went to god for help but god was sad for what he had done to Thomas.
Henry II had lots of power as Becket had banished the bishops who were supporting Henry and Henry just killed Becket.
