Pre-assessment of 4th grade students in music reading, Whilst the teacher…
-
Whilst the teacher is reviewing the assessment results students watch a live performance of Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik. Based on results students are split into three groups: Mozart, Bach and Chopin.
-
Mozart - Students who have shown some knowledge of the subject but need to take more time to broaden their understanding and higher order thinking skills
-
-
These students have had some prior exposure to the subject but their knowledge is inconsistent and or partial. I will use a series of worksheets to help them clarify a few key concepts. For example, many students know of clefs but don't know what they stand for and that different clefs are used in different musical environments.

-
Chopin - Students who answered most of the questions, including the most difficult questions correctly.
Activities will be based on more comprehensive music reading skills and a complete review of orchestral instrumentation. Also a music writing activity will be used as an extension activity to get them working creatively and use skills in the the upper tiers of Blooms Taxonomy
iPad app: Theory Lessons is create systemic way to develop a theoretical understanding of music.
