Mental Health
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act.
Mental Illness
A legal concept not synonymous with psychological disorder; each state has its own definition of mental illness, usually meant to include people with severe disturbances that negatively affect their health and safety.
Positive mental health allows people to:
Realize their full potential
Cope with the stresses of life
Make meaningful contributions to their communities
Work productively.
Ways to maintain positive mental health include:
Getting professional help if you need it
Connecting with others

Getting physically active
Helping others
Getting enough sleep
Developing coping skills
Stress
Some stress is necessary from normal functioning. Stress that is too intense or prolonged can have destructive physiological and psychological effect.
