Exploring Health Professions
Interprofessional Collaberation
So What
Before we watched the video I knew that there were more than just one professional that helped a patient but really didn't just how many people were helping out behind the scenes.
Now What
Now that I know how many people are actually helping to diagnose a patients I think this gives me more gratitude to see how many people are really caring for a single patient and really want to figure out what is wrong with them and what the best way to treat them is.
What
There are many different people that are involved in the healthcare field and there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to diagnosing and treating just one patient.
Professional Development Portfolio
So What
To me, this is very important. After learning everything we did during this section of Exploring Health Professions, I am going to continue to work hard to grow my resume and make it something
I am confident in and feel good about sharing with future employers and schools and such.
Now What
Now that I know what I do about the importance of having a strong professional portfolio I am going to take pride in my resume and other credentials that I am sending out to companies, employers, and schools to already have that little bit of an edge in case the other portfolios that these paces are receiving are lacking that little extra strength they need.
What
Having a strong, professional portfolio will only ever benefit you. Continuing to grow your professional portfolio in all aspects is very important, it will show future employers or schools that you are more than prepared for the position you are applying to and makes you look professional.
Human Side of Health Care
So What
To me this is a very eye opening topic. I will admit fully that I have formed my own biases and I have been proven wrong many times from those biases. But after learning about it in class I have come to realize that having these biases benefits no one and it would be more beneficial to be open minded.
Now What
Now that I have learned about this and put it into perspective I am planning to stop forming my own biases about things and be more open minded, not just as a future healthcare worker, bu just as a human in general.
What
Implicit Bias is a very real thing when it comes to the healthcare field. As humans it's natural for us to have our own biases, however in the healthcare field you cannot have those biases, you need to be open minded and have to be receptive towards new ideas.
What is Health?
So What
To me health is your personal wellbeing. Wether it is your physical health, emotional, or mental health, I see and think of health as the wellbeing of an individual person that should always be taken care of.
Now What
Now that I have heard what other people view health is I think it will definitely keep those viewpoints in mind when I'm referring to health but I still view it in my own way and I think its okay to view things differently from others.
What
Health is everywhere. It means different things to different people. Some believe that is a right that we are individually responsible for. Others believe it is balancing the joys and success of life with its hardships. No matter who you ask you will get a different answer each time.
Strengths
What
After taking a strengths assessment to determine what strengths really make us up were were given our top five and with those top five we were able to learn a lot about ourselves.
So What
Personally I never really thought about or knew what my strengths were so taking this allowed me to see what really makes me up and how I can best use these strengths.
Now What
Now that I know these strengths I am trying to find the best ways for me to personally utilize them in my everyday life so that I am able to capitalize on each individual strength.
Knowing Myself
So What
This is important to me because I want to be true to who I am, I don't want to just go with the flow, I want to be different, I want to stand out and I want to be myself and in order to do so I will have to push myself to find who I really am.
Now What
Now that I know what I need in order to find who I really and am and truly get to know myself, strengths and weakness included, I think that I can really begin to thrive with my studies and my future career path.
What
Knowing who I am and what strengths I hold within myself is very important. I need to know these things so that I am able to capitalize on then to continue to improve myself.
Exploring HealthCare Careers
So What
This was very enlightening for me because guess I was very close minded when it came to which careers in the healthcare field were considered to be of importance, when really all careers in this field have their importance in many different ways.
Now What
Now that I've heard from all these different professionals from all these different areas of study, I am more interested in many different types of healthcare and would love to find a job that allows me to work with more than just one type of profession.
What
The healthcare workforce symposium was an amazing thing to be able to attend. It gave us a lot of insight on the many careers that make up the healthcare field and everything that goes into each individual career.
Competitive Application
So What
This is important to me because of course when you are competing for something you always want to be the one who stands out the most, however you have to work hard in order to gain the competitiveness that is being looked for.
Now What
Now that I know what is being searched for and why it's being searched for I am confident in my abilities to be able to come up with an application that sticks out against the others. I just have to work hard and find the things that will make me stand out.
What
Creating a competitive application is very important. Having a strong application with a lot of promising history on it is what will set you apart from the others.
Society, Culture, Ethics
So What
When your job is as important as the jobs in the healthcare field are, you have to be careful about what information you are spreading outside of work on social media. There are a few rules that everyone should follow when it comes to posting in order to obey they HIPPA rules.
Now What
Now that I am aware of what could happen if HIPPA is violated I will be doing my part in making sure that my social media usage is professional and doesn't violate any rules that could potentially end up in my losing my job and hurting my career.
What
As a healthcare worker you have a lot of responsibilities, those responsibilities aren't just fro when you are at work, they follow you home and are apart of you social media life as well.
Patient Centered Care
Now What
Now that I've seen these issues and how they effect people I wan to do everything in my power to be a better healthcare worker. I want people to feel safe when I am taking care of them, to feel like they can come and get the help they need with out feeling discriminated against or as if they don't belong where they are.
So What
To me it is very important that patients be treated with the upmost respect from their healthcare providers and they should never feel as if they are a burden. The healthcare field should be a place where people can go to get the help they need without feeling ashamed or like they can't afford to be there and get the care they need or that they are being discriminated against
What
Patient Centered Care is when you are doing nothing but your absolute best to take care of your patients, find out what is wrong with them, treat them, and most importantly, make them feel as comfortable and heard as you possibly can. This doesn't happen as much as it should and that needs to be changed.
Escape Fire Video
So What
To me these issues are very real, they are occurring way too much and they shouldn't be. The healthcare field should be a place where people can go to get the help they need without feeling ashamed or like they can't afford to be there and get the care they need or that they are being discriminated against
What
This documentary shed light on the many issues going on in the United States healthcare system. A lot of these problems are fixable and shouldn't even be issues that are occurring, however they are, and they need to be resolved very soon.
Now What
Now that I've seen these issues and how they effect people I wan to do everything in my power to be a better healthcare worker. I want people to feel safe when I am taking care of them, to feel like they can come and get the help they need with out feeling discriminated against or as if they don't belong where they are.
Understanding the Patient Experience
So What
To me, this means that you should never make assumptions about people. Especially in the healthcare field because there could be so many things going on, that we just need to be more understanding of people and the things we can't see.
Now What
Now that I know this I am going to do my best to keep my personal assumptions and opinions of people out of mind because I truly don't know what people are going through and it is never my place to assume that they are doing okay or that they aren't going through a hard time.
What
You never know what someone is going through behind closed doors. Some people are doing great, they're receiving good news. For others they aren't doing so great, and could possible just gotten the worst news of their life. Good or bad everyone is going through different situations in their life.
