The Effects of Breakfast on Students

Vaping/Smoking
Students that vape/smoke are more likely to skip breakfast. Vaping and smoking is an equivalent of having a snack. So these students would have a smoke or vape in the morning instead of eating because their body would crave the nicotine more than food.
Some students choose to vape and smoke instead of eat because they believe it helps them lose weight. That may be true, however, they are losing weight because they aren't eating and giving their body the proper nutrients needed to excel in their everyday life.
Grades In School
A students grades in school will significantly be better when they eat breakfast. This is because breakfast is a source of energy in the morning. This allows the student to be able to pay attention in class and use the class time efficiently. Eating breakfast will help the student concentrate and focus on things in the present instead of daydreaming or losing focus fast.
If a student chooses to skip breakfast their grades are more likley to suffer. Their body won't have the energy it needs to focus and they will give up more easily. They won't be able to focus on one thing in class long enough causing poor use of class time. The student will also be less willing to learn new things and not try to their best ability to understand new concepts.
Access to Proper food
Some students don't have access to proper foods. Some families may not have enough money to buy the right ingredients for a healthy breakfast and they will opt for the less healthy cheeper options.
Students will sometimes skip breakfast because the options at home don't appeal to them so they wait to get to school to buy lunch there.
Students who have access to proper food are more likely to eat breakfast because they will find something that appeals to them and make a balanced breakfast in the morning before school.
Not Eating Breakfast
Some students skip breakfast because they think it will help with their weight. That is not the case. A growing student needs to eat breakfast everyday to be able to be present and have enough energy to get through the day.
Some students only eat lunch and skip breakfast because they think they will be fine until lunch. However for that first half of the day they don't have any food in their body to provide energy to participate in class.
Skipping breakfast can cause a persons metabolism to slow down. Meaning it can cause weight gain or make it harder to lose weight. When the metabolism is slowed down the body will burn fewer calories when resting and participating in activities.
How the body Reacts
If a student were to only grab a granola bar or an apple, sure that isn't the worst option, however something like that would digest in a matter of minutes providing very little energy for the body.
If a student did not eat anything for breakfast their body will have nothing to feed off of for energy. The body has most likely been fasting for 8 hours so that first meal of the day is very important to fuel the body to function at full capability.
When a student gets a full breakfast with all the nutrients the body digests the food in a proper manner to provide energy until the next meal.
Alertness
A lot of students drive to school. These students are up at an early hour and are already tired from the sleep they just had. Not eating breakfast can add to that sluggishness. Food helps the brain wake up in the morning. If students are going to be driving breakfast should be a part of their morning routine, that will help them stay observant and alert while driving.
In school students are more likely to pay attention and participate in class if they have a well balanced breakfast. Eating breakfast will help them be able to actually hear what the teacher is saying and have an appropriate response to it.
Most students already aren't sleeping enough so not eating breakfast really adds on to how attentive they will be in school.
Well Balenced Breakfast
A well balanced breakfast would be best if the student included something form all five of the food groups. Most well balanced breakfasts consists of three of the five food groups. Whole grains, dairy, and fruit.
An example of the perfect breakfast would be some blueberries on low fat yogurt or greek yogurt, and whole grain or rye toast with peppers or onions and an egg on top.
