I will be able to communicate that.
..proteins affect the traits of an organism.
Proteins are macromolecules that help us to produce and build certain things like hair and muscle.
They also help with coding for what type of hair you have or how strong you are or what color eyes you will get. Proteins are like the pages
Proteins are esential for your body to be able to devlop
Chromosomes hold many genes and that each gene holds the instructions for the production of specific proteins.
Chromosomes are proteins that carry the genetic information responsible for running the gene.
They are the book
Genes
Genes take the code from the proteins
and make it into reality. The genes are the part of your body that give you your features. They are the encyclopedia.
Learning Target:
“I will be able to describe that:”
Traits are what we look like we they are who we are. These are the phenotypes we get our traits from our parents.
Mutations occur when a piece of the gene is messed up and does not work how should. These can be good bad or completely neutral.
Some examples of them being negative are Diabetes,Obesity,Osteochondroma and autism
Some examples of neutral are heterochromia, an extra finger.
Helpful mutations include denser bones or an immunity to malaria and enhanced color seeing.
Mutations are the misprints in the article or the missing book in the encyclopedia.
My genetic mutation is heterochromia iridium which is caused when a gene messes up and adds too much or too little melanin to the iris.
I will be able to develop and use a model to describe that:
Structural changes to genes (mutations) may or may not result to changes in proteins... and ...changes to proteins there may be harmful beneficial, or neutral changes to a traits.
sexually reproducing organisms have two of each chromosome in their cell nuclei, and hence two variants (alleles) of each gene that can be the same of different from each other,
Alleles are the multiple phenotypes that a gene can make. For example you could have the allele that codes for brown hair or the allele that codes for blonde hair.
and... one random assortment of each chromosome is passed down to offspring from both parents.
Homozygous dominant means that you have two traits that are both dominant so the allele is dominant.
Homozygous recessive means that you have two recessive traits so the recessive trait is shown as the phenotype.
The cardinal may have had a punnet square that looked like this. It had the allele of homozygous recessive and therefor was yellow.
Heterozygous is when there are two opposing traits one dominant and one recessive the dominant trait is always shown as the phenotype.
