reading questions

the PPEL project is providing parents with a copy of planning in order for them to go through the journey that their child will be on.

they can use this as a guide to what their children are learning, as well as seeing what is needed to be done in order to achieve the curriculum

can be used as a way to communicate with parents about their child and what their interests are at home in order to imbed them in the classroom

how have I seen settings engage with parents

practitioners are always smiling and happy when weloming the parents

if a practitioner has a problem with a parents child in their class, they will always talk to them privately instead of infront of other parents, children, etc.

if a child is upset a practitioner will always comfort the child and either tell their parent or ask why they are upset to the parent.

if there are any parent problems, a practitioner will always try to reassure them and use this as a way to improve rather than critisism

barriers to involving parents in their childs learning

homework that has been set may not be completed so a teacher would not know if they are progressing

sometimes parents may give the answer to their child or teach them an alternative which they have not learnt in the classroom. this can cause confusion with the child

they may not see certain subjects as important so they may not support their child during learning

how can we provide formal and informal opportunities for parental engagement

giving them resources in order to help their childs learning

parents evenings to help track a childs learning

giving them extra work if they would like it

providing actitivties both adult led and child led in order to help build skills

How can we help parents to understand the value of home experiences?

providing information

building relationships

cultural diversity

all families are different and may prioritise things over others
