green plume in the ocean around the volcano contained the perfect cocktail for plant growth -- a fertile mix of higher nitrate levels, silicic acid, iron and phosphate.
People: Humans
Four people from Papua New Guinea spent a month in a boat adrift in the Pacific Ocean and lived off rainwater and coconuts. Eight others died, some when the boat capsized and the rest during the time that they were stranded. After setting sail on December 22, the survivors — two men, a woman and a 12-year-old girl — were rescued on January 23 by a fishing vessel.
Climate
Most of the North Pacific Ocean is in low latitudes between 35° N and 35° S and is thus mostly tropical and subtropical in climate.
Soil
There is no soil in the North Pacific Ocean, except at the ocean floor. The bottom of the ocean is very calm (the opposite of the top) and there is usually some life down there, like coral reefs and stuff. In fact , at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, there could be life forms that we don't know, because we can't build a submarine to go see.
Location
North Pacific Ocean, body of salt water extending from the Antarctic region in the south to the Arctic in the north and lying between the continents of Asia and Australia on the west and North and South America on the east.
