Digestive tract - Accesory Digestive organs
Liver
4 Lobes
Left
Caudate
Right
Quadrate
Ligaments
Coronary
Falciform
Porta Hepatis/ Hium
Common Hepatic Duct
drains bile from liver
Hepatic artery
Oxygenated blood to liver
Porta vein
nutrient rich blood to liver
Histology
liver lobule- functional unit
made of simple cuboidal cells- HEPATOCYTES
radiate outward from central vein
arranged in plates (cords)
space between plates is SINUSOIDS
Portal (Hepatic) Triads
branches off hepatic artery, portal vein and common hepatic duct
Each lobule surrounded by 6 traids
Flow of venous blood
nutrient rich blood from portal veins travels sinusoids
then into hepatocytes
blood in sinusoids drains into central veins
then to IVC, then heart
Flow of Bile
Produced by hepatocytes
Aids in digestion of dietary fats
Bile drains into canaliculi
drain into bile ducts of triads
then common hepatic duct
then hepatic ducts
Pancreas
both exocrine (99%) and endocrine (1%)
3 sections
Head
near duodenom
Body
passes behind stomach
Tail
beside spleen
Posterior to stomach
Main pancreatic duct
empty exocrine poducts to duodenum
hepatic ampulla of vatar
Gallbladder
Pear-shaped muscular organ
Inferior to right lobe of liver
Function: store bile
3 regions
Fundas- Anteriorly
Body- middle
neck- posterior- connected to cystic duct
Billary system
Hepatic ducts
Right and left- drain bile from liver into common hepatic duct
Cystic ducts
attaches to common hepatic duct- transport bile to and from gallbladder
Common Bile duct
Common hepatic duct and cystic duct meet to form- drains bile into duodenum
