start at the poles
Make way to equator
Days are longer as distance to travel is not as much with one degree of planet rotation, so sweet spot is easier to stay inside.
Space elevator to get off planet
Some object hit the planet, slowing its rotation to a crawl, and creating a zone where the sun hits and is too hot, and where the sun does not hit and is too cold, so the players stay in the twilight area between night and day
Gameplay elements
Depending on start area, the players are trying to outrun extreme heat or extreme cold
Vehicles are solar powered, so proper logistics are needed to keep those in the shadows of planet features are needed.
Morning side of planet means players are going into cold, and shadow, so if they run out of power, waiting means that planet rotates and eventually can get power/recharge.
Setting sun means that those behind, if they run out of power, need to call someone ahead and call them back to bring charged batteries
Temperature is a major gameplay element

Plants are coming out of snow, into temperate and then into hellhole
Plants are coming out of hellhole into temperate and then into cold
Area is more temprate for people to start and not be killed immedaity

When a player logs out, their body stays in the game in some way

Player Chacter dies and player "respawns" at the pole
When a player gets to a space elevator, they can chose to use it and go up to escape generation ship.
If player goes up, they reset into a new character, and make the trip again
If they chose to not go up, they could start making their way back to the poles, creating a new route that winds around the planet the opposite direction
These more skilled player characters could help less skilled players make their way to the equator
Needs to set some kind of gameplay reason for these charcters to not become overly powerful so they have to reset from time to time
Each character that goes up counts toward the total getting off the planet
Parts are more plentiful in some areas
Heat for example has destroyed a lot of things near the equator
