urinary tract infection
Defination
is an infection in any part of your urinary system, which includes your kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra
-
Pathophysiology
The bacteria attach to the epithelium of the urinary tract and colonize it to avoid being washed out with voiding
-
-
As the defense mechanisms react to the bacteria, inflammation starts to set in as well as other signs of infection
Health education
-
Avoid drinks that may irritate your bladder like alcohol, caffeine and soft drinks
-
Types
Pyelonephritis (kidneys) This can cause fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and pain in your upper back or side
-
Cystitis (bladder) a need to pee a lot, or it might hurt when peeing.includes lower belly pain and cloudy or bloody urine
-

Nursing intervention
Avoid urinary irritants such as coffee, tea, colas, and alcohol
Encourage frequent voiding every 2 to 3 hours to empty the bladder completely because this can lower urine bacterial counts and prevent re-infection
Encourage the patient to drink liberal amounts of fluids to promote renal blood flow and to flush bacteria from the urinary tract
Antispasmodic agents may relieve bladder irritability and analgesics and application of heat help relieve pain and spasm
