-
Economic power
two main classes
bourgeoisie; those who control means of production and wealth - additionally control money, manipulate politics, government, education, art and media
-
Capitalism flawed because it creates commodification (desire for possession because of social value and showing off one's wealth)
Commodification is the way in which bourgeoisie keep proletariat oppressed; whenever the latter acquires a status, the wealthier create new ones so that there is no way for them to advance
-
Class conflict
-
-
bourgeoisie present political, economic and social structures as the only reasonable ones
proletariat indoctrinated from birth and, pride in station, preventing them from overthrowing oppressors
divisions of race, ethnicity, gender and religion are artificial, devised by the bourgeoisie to distract proletariat from realising unity and rebelling

Art, Literature and Ideologies
art and literature means by which wealthy could impose their value system; artistic value of literature can make it seem attractive, and making workers accept it
art and literature enjoyable, so are distracted from them being manipulated
through patronage/sponsorship, bourgeoisie are the entities which funds the industry; owning the means of production also means serving primary consumers; artist must be careful to not offend bourgeoisie values
