Church
The church was the center for most people, so they believed whatever they were told. The church used this to promote beliefs that they agreed with, and vice versa.

Kings and Queens
It was believed that kings and queens had a divine right to the throne. Divine right was where it was thought that God gave the king or queen right to reign.

Miasma
The belief that bad smells caused illnesses. People would carry bunches of herbs or flowers so miasma wouldn't affect them
Astrology
The belief that the positioning of the planets and the stars had something to do with the reason you were ill. An example is that if you went to a physician and told him you were ill, he might ask you what star sign you are, and then proclaim that the planets are out of position so that why you are ill.

Continuity
Medicinal practices continued pretty much as before because no one wanted to or had the nerve to challenge what the authorites (i.e. the church) said. This ment there had been no new major discoveries.
