Network Architectures (Topologies)
Ring Network
Topology where each device connected directly to a central network switch
each device is connected to two other
devices, forming a ring.
Tree Network
Topology where each device connected to a central node either directly or through subordinate nodes
Nodes branch out linearly from one root node, and two connected
also known as hierarchical
nodes only share one mutual connection
Mesh Network
Not use a
specific physical layout
Require that each node have more than one connection to other nodes
Wireless technologies are
frequently used
Star Network
each device connected
directly to a central network switch
Devices can only communicate with each other indirectly through the central hub
Star Network is the most widely used network topology today
Bus Network
each device is connected to a common
cable called a bus or backbone.
the way in which the links and nodes of a network are arranged to relate to one another.
