New products were brought to Europe. These included precious metals, foods and spices.
The development of mercantile capitalism: an economic system in which capital belonged to private owners, generally members of the bourgeoisie

Social change
The rural society that developed in the Middle Ages, an urban society developed. This became one of the defining characteristics of the Early Modern Age.
Classes
Priviliged
nobility and clergy
They didn´t pay taxes, and they were judged by special tribunals.
The unprivileged class

Bourgeoisie
They were not ruled by a feudal lord. This social group increased in number, became wealthier and gained more political influence during the Early Modern Age.
Petit bourgeoisie
Were small merchants, less important officials, all types of artisans, artists, servants and labourers. They formed the largest group in the cities.
Upper bourgeoise
Were important merchants, bankers and officials. They lived in richly decorated urban palaces.
Women
Were considered less important than men. Their main function was to have a lot of children. There was a high infant mortality rate and few of the children survived
The modern state
Monarchs had more resources so they became more powerful and were able to reform the existing institutions and create new ones.
main objectives were to consolidate their authority, control the power of the nobility, administrate the kingdom's resources more effectively and maintain a strong position of power in relation to other monarchs
