GLOBAL SYSTEMS UNBALANCED - Coggle Diagram
GLOBAL SYSTEMS UNBALANCED
Sub-systems of the global system, are they failing too?
The ecological sub-system
Arguably the most important sub - system, basically nature and our resources
Problems that the sub-system is undergoing - climate change.
irreversible consequences
global warming
Interference in natural biomes
WE NEED A NEW DEAL FOR NATURE
The economic sub-system
Although our global GDP is high, the growth has decreased significantly.
Unfortunately, so have the risks
There is a lot of corporate government and citizen debt, in some places nearly twice as much.
Trade has decreased in importance, but what is being done with it now, is extremely harmful and negative
Countries are starting to rely on trade wars as something to advance their economic gain
Unfortunately trade wars have negative, unintended consequences, with both sides losing in the war.
The technological sub - system
Information is power in the 21st century and the main problems with this sub - system come when information is threatened.
Therefore, acts like cybercrime and breakdowns in IT departments are a global risk.
Also, the future is constructed out of the Internet of things and AI. With no infrastructure to place them effectively,, the product loses its point
What is disturbing is that the Internet of Things is being treated as the objective of a race, rather than the possible future.
the social sub-system
As seen with the tech. sub - system, the winner is whoever takes advantage of the global system or is "the winner". This obviously in recent years have triggered protests and movements against governments or corporations.
This wasn't in the reading, but it has to be stated. The grand scale of interconnectedness we have in our society has created tribalism (eg. social media) and a lot of intolerance
The political sub - system
By having uni - power dominate the world for the last 20 years (the US) we have forgotten how to divide power equally as multiple new powers grow and political relations are strained.
Reasons why they are failing
Over complexity
There are too many elements in the system and that accounts for:
Humans (overpopulation
Products (the AI market, or more like how fast it is changing)
Almost outdated
The idea of power dynamics in supranational groups are extremely old.
Government systems based in the twentieth century solve solve problems that present global risks, like climate change
This leads to a demand for social change, unfortunately, the demand is not always put out peacefully and neither is the reaction to that demand.
Solutions to these unbalanced systems - Globalisation
There are three pillars to which to base these solutions
Building national systems by bundling resources
Our systems would become more sustainable, therefore solving most of the problems of the ecological systems
Our system has automatically more stakeholder based as there are more stakeholders when there is resource bundling and more consumers to one company, that way multiple corporations can't be corrupt and checks and balances can be implemented
These systems would become more human centric, as we can also collaborate with AI and robots and can help in managing production.
We should be able to explore and adapt our systems to the rapidly changing world.
We would have more gender - balanced systems and will become more inclusive
As our ideas of technology change, we have to keep a responsible use of technology, and therefore the system needs to be more ethically based.
We need to be able to take more foresighted and more predicted approaches.
By taking more data and having the ability to connect to multitudes of people, society would be more based on common interests.
