The conference in Darlington hall are informal. Many influential people attended the meeting. There were two key figures at the meeting: one was Mr. DuPont, a French gentleman, and the other was Mr. Lewis, an American senator. Lord Darlington, aware of the French retaliation against the Germans, was particularly interested in persuading Mr. DuPont to revise his views on the Treaty of Versailles. The next night, after Lord Darlington's dinner and a toast to "peace and justice in Europe", Mr. DuPont stood up to reveal the negative impact that Mr. Lewis of the United States was trying to have on the process of the conference. Finally, he toasted and thanked Lord Darlington. However, Mr Lewis stood up and accused everyone present as "a group of naive dreamers.".
