1794 - 11th Amendment - the amendment was adopted to overrule the U.S Supreme Court’s decision in Chisholm v. Georgia
1803 - Louisiana Purchase - was a land deal between the United State and France and which the U.S acquired a piece of land across the Mississippi river
1819 - McCulloch v. Maryland - is one of the first and most important cases on federal power. Congress has implied powers derived from those listed in Article 1 section 8. The Necessary and Proper Clause gave Congress the power to establish a national bank
1824 - Gibbons vs Ogden - U.S supreme court case that established the principle that states cannot interfere with the congress to regulate commerce
1850 - California becomes a state - in the U.S congress coming out of slavery issues and so California entered the union as a free and non-slavery state.
1863/64 - National Bank Act - established system of national banks, created USNBS
1862 - Homestead Act - governments giveaway federal land. They gave 160 acres for each man for $10 and the land was theirs if they could live on the land for 5 years.
1865 - 13th Amendment - the thirteenth amendment abolished slavery in the United States and anywhere under its jurisdiction
1875 - Civil Rights Act - grant equal accommodations in public places and prohibit racial discrimination
