MIS INFORMATION, DISINFORMATION AND FAKE NEWS
Missinformation: Incorrect information. It is a common occurance in social media. Many people share misinformation on social media without knowing that they are actually wrong.
Disinformation: The intentional spread of false information. Disinformation is commonly used for political purposes to create propaganda. For example the spreading of false information during elections may be used to influence people's opinions.
Echo chamber: It normally means a space in which sound reverbertaes, so any sounds made are repeated over and over again. In the subject disinformation this term can be used to describe the reinforcement of common beliefs meaning that if a group of people that share the same beliefs create an environment where they can talk about this belief, the belief gets even stronger.
Fake news: false, often sensational stories, spread under the guise of news reporting. These kinds of fake news are shared in order to gain money. As we all now we live in an age where some clicks on internet can make lots of money, therefore people use it to their advantage.
THE QUESTION OF TRUST
There are many fake news and misinformations on the social media, because of this situation many people don't know what to believe or trust, therefore tehy either turn to experts or ask the opinions of their peers.
Competency: In order to trust someone that gives information we need to make sure tha person is competent enough, which means that they need to be capable and have the right skills or knowledge.
