NUCLEAR ENERGY:
Is energy in the nucleus of an atom. It can be used to make energy, and also it can be released from atoms in two ways: nuclear fussion and nuclear fission. Nuclear energy plants are very expensive to built.
It doesn't emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Can be dangerous due to the radioactivity.
HIDROPOWER ENERGY:
A dam is built to trap water, usually in a valley where there is an existing lake. Water is allowed to flow through tunnels in the dam to turn turbines and thus generators. Hydro-electric power stations can produce a great deal of power very cheaply.
WIND ENERGY:
The energy that travels in the wind can be captured and converted to provide electricity. Wind turbines are used to create electricity from the energy in the wind and they are located onshore and offshore.
SOLAR ENERGY:
Solar energy is reasonably predictable, and is not associated with any environmental risk. There are two main ways that solar energy is used in our buildings:
SOLAR THERMAL: To produce hot water by using flat solar
thermal collectors on houses.
SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC: To generate electrical energy.
PETROLEOUM:
Petroleum is a mixture of organic compounds, mainly water-insoluble hydrocarbons. It is a non-renewable resource and is currently also the main source of energy and raw material for the generation of a wide variety of derivatives, including most plastics.
COAL:
Coal it is a sedimentary rock with a high amount of carbon and hydrocarbons. Coal is classified as a nonrenewable energy source bacause it takes millions of years to from.
NATURAL GAS:
Natural gas is a hydrocarbon mixture of light gases of natural origin. It mainly contains methane and varying amounts of other alkanes. It constitutes an important source of fossil energy released by its combustion.
MARINE ENERGY:
Marine energy uses the power from the sea to create electricity. It uses energy from waves or from tidal currents. Ireland has one of the greatest ocean energy resources in the world.
BIOMASS:
Energy wich comes from plants and other organic material. Biomass can be burned to provide heat or converted to steam to drive engines.Certain plants can be converted to fuel and special cars can run on this biofuel.
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY:
Geothermal energy is a renewable energy that is obtained by taking advantage of the heat inside the Earth. There are three types of geothermal reservoirs called:
Hot water, dry and geysers.
