Processes
abrasion
abrasion is when the glacier scabs and scratch along the ground and the sides cause valleys like u- shaped valley

hanging valley
a hanging valley is a smaller valley in a u-shaped valley cased by a smaller glacier. the glacier begins to move down the valley then begins melt casing and a long, big drop, vertical drop it is commonly filled by a river making a waterfall
Example: Poulanass Waterfall, Glendalough, Co.Wicklow

transportation
Material is pushed in front of the glacier, like a sweeping brush.
-
-
Material falls through cracks and crevasses in the glacier, and so is carried within it.
Glaciers carry large amounts of material from upland areas, where they are formed, to lowland areas.
They carry this load in the following ways:
What causes an Ice Age?
Earth’s orbit & axis: The Earth’s orbit around the sun, changes regularly from oval to elliptical to circular.
Earth’s Atmosphere: When there is less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to trap the sun’s heat, global temperatures can drop.
Ocean Currents: Ocean currents distribute heat. When the change occurs, ice sheets can build up.

out wash plain
An outwash plain is a low, flat area of land made of sand and gravel. they are formed when to glacier begins to melt dropping sand and gravel down on to the floor making outwash plains
Example: The Curragh, Co.Kildare

drumlin
a drumlin is a small mounting of boulder clay, Ice deposits some of its load of boulder clay. The remaining ice moves over the boulder clay.
causing the hill to smooths out giving it a steep side and a gentle slope side
Example: Clew Bay to Strangford Lough, largest Drumlin Region in Ireland.
