Attitude : a favorable/unfavourable evaluative reaction toward smth or someone
The Implicit Attitude Test (IAT)
measures implicit/ unconscious attitudes towards socially sensitive topics
through the speed at which they connect
Moral hypocrites: appears moral but avoids the cost, knows the action is wrong but still do it
When do attitudes predict behaviour?
when social influences on what we say are minimal > no external influences to stop ur behaviour
when other influences on behaviour are minimal> situational factors (weather, mood)
attitudes specific to behaviours are examined> general attitudes cnn predict behaviour, specific attitudes can
when attitudes are potent> smth is impt = u wld avoid anyth that damages it (eg.health)
behaviour affects attitude
role-playing: internalises roles which affects attitudes
saying becomes believing: no compelling external explanation > believe what u say
evil OR moral acts: attitudes-follow-behaviours: if u do bad things, wears down moral sensitivity

WHY BEHAVIOUR AFFECTS ATTITUDES?
Self-presentation theory
self-monitoring: look consistent for urself and others
Cognitive dissonance theory
self justification occurs when there is tension ( tension comes when u act contrary to ur attitude)
self justifying...dissonance after decisions (btwn 2 equally attractive decisions)
Self perception theory
self-knowledge: watching self, looking at urself and observe ur attitudes and behaviours
facial feedback effect: manipulate emotions by manipulating facial expressions
Overjustification effect: bribe someone to do smth they like to do (the money is the motivational factor)
Self-affirmation: when ur self-image is threatened bc u engage in a undesirable behaviour such as stealing,, to compensate this > try to affirm another aspect of urself (adding cognition/changing cognition)
The theory of planned behaviour:
Attitude + Subjective norm + Perceived behavioral control = intention = behavior
subjective norm --> behavior
