If the total language standard score does not meet the criteria of at least two standard deviations below the mean (70 or below) then a standard score at least two standard deviations below the mean (70 or below) in one area (receptive or expressive) of a comprehensive language test and a standard score or quotient at least two standard deviations below the mean (70 or below) on an assessment of a specific language component (semantics, syntax, morphology, processing, phonological awareness, or pragmatics) must be used. The assessment of a specific language component must be in the same area as the deficit score on the comprehensive language test. If the second test is scored 70 or below, they meet eligibility requirements.
