Berk 10-5 - Lesson 9 Classwork - Mind map, Terms, Fertilization, Bacteria,…
-
Terms
Transcription - first step of protein synthesis, information from DNA is copied to mRNA
Translation - second step of protein synthesis, information from the mRNA is interpreted by a ribosome to produce an amino acid chain/polypeptide for a specific protein
Gene expression (aka protein synthesis) - when the cell performs a function which is encoded for in the DNA, such as protein synthesis
mRNA - messenger RNA, carries information necessary for protein synthesis from the nucleus to the production site, the ribosome
-
-
Incomplete dominance - when a combined trait of those of both alleles is expressed, and neither allele is expressed in its purity
Codominance - when both alleles of a gene are clearly expressed, side by side, without blending
Haploid - cells that have only 23 chromosomes inside of them. Haploid cells are the sperm and the egg (gametes).

Cellular differentiation - The concept that different proteins made in a cell give it a different role in the organism; the process in which a cell changes from one cell type to another
