MAY (questions and affirmative sentences, very formal)
Ex May I go to the toilet, please?
CAN (informal) Ex Can I open the window, please?

CERTAINTY la forma passata di questi verbi si fa con il verbo modale + have + part passato (ex must have been)
MUST = when we are sure something is true Ex That shirt must belong do dad not to me, it's too big for me!
CAN'T = when we are sure something is not true Ex That man can't be her father, he's too young

POSSIBILITY la forma passata di questi verbi si fa con il verbo modale + have + part passato (ex might have been)
MIGHT / MAY Ex It may rain tonight, look at the sky / I might come to your party, I'm not sure
LACK OF NECESSITY = have to alla forma negativa (don't / doesn't have to, didn't have to, won't have to). Ex I don't have to catch the bus to go to school, my house is very near
