Plastics (polymers) - Coggle Diagram
Plastics (polymers)
Thermoplastics
Can be reheated and reset (as molecular structure is different. But reforming many times will result in degration of desireable properties

-
-
-
PP (polypropylene)
Versatile, flexible without breaking, can withstand variable temperatures, cuts easily with knifes, laser cutters, scores/bends well too
-
-
-
Cheap and useful, but bad for the environment and unsustainable because...
-
-
-
-
-
Although some is recycled, it will eventually end in landfill (helps, but not solution)

-
Thermosets
-
-
UF (Urea formaldehyde)
Good insulator, hard, brittle, used for electrical fittings as won't melt
-
Epoxy resin
Used as adhesive for many materials - very strong, expensive
-
Melamine formaldehyde
Scratch, water and stain resistant, used for tables, kitchen tops, etc.
