DEFINITION
Moral guidelines that govern the use of computers and information systems
INFORMATION PRIVACY
Refers to the right of individuals and companies tp deny or restrict the collection and use of information about them.
Contains techniques companies and employers use to collect our personal data
(eg: electronic profiles, cookies, spam, phishing, Spyware and adware)
user can safeguard personal information by: Providing Information, Buying goods and Computer History
INFORMATION ACCURACY
concern because users access information maintained by other people or companies like on the internet.
Do not assume that because the information is on the Web that it is correct.
users should evaluate the value of a Web page before relying on its content
SOFTWARE PIRACY
Unauthorized and illegal duplication of
copyrighted software
user illegally obtaining registration number or activation code
A program called a keygens creates software registration numbers and sometimes activation code.
CODE OF CONDUCT
A written guideline that helps determine ethical or unethical of specific computer
computers may not be used to harm other people
Employees may not interfere with other's computer work
GREEN COMPUTING
Involves reducing the electricity and environmental waste while using a computer.
Do not leave the computer running overnight
(computer energy is often wasteful)
Use paperless methods to communicate
(avoid pollution)
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
The rights to which creators are entitled for their work
Refers to unique and original works (ideas, inventions, art, writings, processes, company and product names, and logos
Types
PATENT (exclusive right granted for innovation)
COPYRIGHT (rights given to creator for their literary and artistic works)
TRADEMARK (a distinctive sign which identifies certain goods or services)
