Upper Respiratory Infection - Coggle Diagram

- - - - MOA: inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to PBP's
      - PK/PD: rapid absorption, readily distributes into middle ear, poor CSF penetration, time-dependent killing
      - AE's: SJS, hypersensitivity rxns, headache, diarrhea, N&V
        
        serious anaphylactic reactions with hx of beta-lactam hypersensitivity
      - Special pops: use IR formulation (oral suspension, chewable tablet) in children,
      - Counseling: signs of allergic reaction, diarrhea (if severe could be C. diff), shake liquid suspension well before use
  - - - AE: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash
      - MOA: inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to PBP's; also beta lactase inhibitor
      - Counseling: May decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives; may cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
      - Special Populations:
      - PK/PD clavulanate: protein binding: ~25%, T1/2: 1h, Time to peak: 1.5h, Excretion: Urine (25%-40% as unchanged drug).
  - - - If allergic to penicillins, can use cephalexin, cefadroxil, clindamycin, azithromycin, or clarithromycin
      - Counseling: take on empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal (pen VK) (amox can be with or without food), may decrease effectiveness of live vaccines and OCT, may raise INR with concomitant warfarin. Should not mix with tetracyclines or aminoglycosides
        
        AE: GI upset, allergic reaction
      - MOA: inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to PBPs
      - PK: t/2 <2hrs, fp ~80%, excreted via urine (unchanged and some metabolites)
