A Sufi is he who is truehearted in devotion, firm in the faith, loyal to the divine law, incisive in his understanding of the religion, and endowed with gnosis. A true Sufi was thus equivalent to a true believer, a true Muslim. Notably, Sufism embraced many women. by the eleventh century, there were twelve schools of Sufism, two of which he considered condemned, and the remaining ten as approved.
