How Will I Write A Folktale?
Rule Of Three
Incorporate it either in objects, plots, events or characters.
Characters and Setting
Setting is related to the characters and vice versa.
Characters change over time and the hero is usually good.
Magic helpers are there to create the impossible possible.
Place described briefly.
Literary Devices
Use lots of literary devices at the right place. Events that should be dramatized can incorporate many literary devices.
Time Period
Depending on time period, the names, setting, characters should be related.
Plot
The plot has to be clear, related to previous events, and related to the setting and time period.
Involve magic in the story.
Good vs Evil usually there - Usually happy ending.
Vernacular
Based on the setting and time period, involve commonly used phrases or words from that language to make it look like it is from there.
Types of Folktales
Should be one of:
Trickster - Involves a character who does lots of tricks and is not caught at the end of the story.
Fable - Should teach a lesson/moral.
Pourquoi - Explains why something is as it is or how it came to be.
Fairytale - Includes good and evil characters where the good character wins.
Pass Down Through Generations
Make sure that whatever time period we are in, generations to come should be able to use it.
