Early Childhood
Domains
Cognitive
Language
Language develops rapidly in this stage as children are able to put sentences together and are able to express their emotions verbally (Berk, 2018).
Physical
Gross motor development
As their body is growing bigger at around 2 years old their balance improves and they are steadier on their feet, arms and torso which then helps them develop new skills such as running, climbing, hopping, skipping catching/throwing balls (Berk, 2018).

Theorist
Piaget
In Piaget's pre-operational stage he believed children develop through pretend play and the child at this age shows dramatic increase in representational activity, as reflected in the development of language, make-believe play, understanding of dual representation and categorisation. They categorise objects on the basis of common function, behaviour and natural kind as well as features. Sorts familiar objects into hierarchically organised categories. They also develop egocentrism which is where they only see from their perspective no one else's. Make believe play can also include functional play as it is where the child does simple and repetitive movements such as running and rolling objects back and forth. (Berk, 2018).
Bandura
Bandura’s Social learning theories suggest that children learn to show aggressive behaviours as they observe others acting aggressively and can see how these behaviours are reinforced. He believed people learn from one another through observation, imitation, and modelling (Berk, 2018).
Environmental Influences
Family
The child's family is a huge influence as they determine where or who they meet and become friends with, which affects the child's socioemotional development and in some cases where it is a negative situation it can affect the child's physical and cognitive development (Berk, 2018).
Education
Preschool or education influences the development of a child as this will be their environment that they learn many life skills. If they go to a low educational facility this will affect their cognitive, socioemotional, and physical development also their academic ability (Berk, 2018).
Interrelationship
Play
By developing pretend play (cognitive) and by having more complex language is helpful to play then leads to physically active such as running (physical) also leads to social development by playing and interacting with other children. (socio-emotional).
