with Energy
Section 1
Types of energy
Potential
where a body is in a force field of some kind that exerts
a force on it
Radiation
carried by electromagnetic waves.
Kinetic
associated with motion (the term comes from the
Greek word kinesis, which means ‘motion’)
Heat/thermal kinetic
energy
Sound energy
Kinetic energy (for
any object)
Power

Domestic supplies
SI Units for energy
joule (J)
- named after
James Prescott Joule
(1818-1889)
1 J = 1 Nm (newton x meter)
1 J = 1 kg m s-2 x m
1 J = 1 kg m^2 s^-2
Writing metric units
Using Energy
Energy comes in many different forms. It can be described as something which is transferred between parts of a system when something happens.
Energy can be also be bought from gas and electricity suppliers. Almost all energy used on Earth came originally from the sun. Energy costs money even if the source is free. Energy provides the ability to do work.
