Photosynthesis

Light Reaction

Requires sunlight

Dark Reaction

Occurs in thylakoid of chloroplast

Does not require sunlight

Produces ATP and NADPH

Occurs in Stroma

Photosystem II

Absorbs sunlight

Water molecules are broken down

Energy ions get transferred across membrane.

Hydrogen ions are transported across thylakoid membrane

Photosystem I

Energy is absorbed from sunlight

NADPH is produced

Hydrogen ions diffuse through protein channel

ADP is changed into ATP when hydrogen ions flow through ATP synthase.

Builds glucose

Called Calvin cycle

Used to make simple sugars

Requires Co2

Water molecules are broken down :

Used to run light in-dependent reaction
