Why does uneven development exist?
Civil War
Destruction of infrastructure
The money isn't available to rebuild
Outside countries take sides
Not everybody is happy with the outcome
So trade from some countries could be cut
The winner of the war will have to rebuild trust with their population
Geographical location
If a country is landlocked it is harder for it to trade so the cost of living will be more expensive
Rural isolation means that their isn't any jobs so they can't get a wage and pay their taxes
Long-term impacts of slavery
It will keep a country in the dark ages for a lot longer
Jobs won't be as easily accessible as they are taken by slaves
Poor government and corruption
They can't give their population any financial help
They can't fund new infrastructure
Corrupt governments obviously aren't as reliable and other countries won't want to help them financial as they can't be associated with a corrupt government.
Economic reasons unfair trade debt
Some countries have trade agreements with each other. Joining a already established trade group can be challenging and they will have a specific criteria that may not fit with other countries.
Impacts of colonialism
Other countries may try and stick to the past or just have a stereotype of the country that isn't even true of today and will try not to trade with them.
Lack of resources
The country can't make any money from natural resources
So development will be slowed
Population and health
The population can't work for very long if the average death age is high
Climate and Health
If a population can't live as long and health care is hard to get then peoples life expectancy will be lower.
