Reproduction
Sexual reproduction - type of reproduction that involves a complex life cycle in which a gamete with a single set of chromosomes combines with another to produce an organism composed of cells with two sets of chromosomes
Gamete - an organism's reproductive cells, also referred to as sex cells
Egg/Ovum - it is connected with the gamete because it is the female reproductive cell
Multicellular organisms - organisms with more than one cell; composed of groups of specialized cells
Humans - multicellular organisms
Reproduction through fertilization - the fusion of gametes to form a new individual organism
Body cell - human body is composed of those
Asexual reproduction - type of reproduction that does not involve the fusion of gametes
Sperm - it is connected with the gamete because it is the male reproductive cell
Bacteria - microscopic, single-celled organisms that thrive in diverse environments; reproduce asexually
Single-celled organisms - also known as unicellular, an organism that consists of a single cell
Corals - marine invertebrates which typically live in compact colonies of many identical individual polyps; can reproduce both sexually and asexually
Flowers - the reproductive structure found in flowering plants; reproduce sexually
External fertilization - mode of reproduction in which a male organism's sperm fertilizes a female organism's egg outside of the female's body; typical for corals
Mitosis - part of the cell cycle, in which, replicated chromosomes are separated into two new nuclei; found in asexual reproduction
Chickens - multicellular organisms
Gametogenesis - the process by which gametes are produced in an organism; creation of sex cells
Internal fertilization - mode of reproduction in which a male organism's sperm fertilizes a female organism's egg inside of the female's body; typical for humans
Cellular differentiation - the concept that different proteins made in a cell give it a different role in the organism
