CHAPTER 15
-
PLOT
TIMELINE
1- During the rehearsal, Karim realizes Pyke might have a grudge against him.
2- At the opening, the whole audience laughs at Karim as he walks on stage. He plays (again) the role of an Indian immigrant, which was quite humiliant.
3- Karim goes to the restaurant with the aesthetes. He finds their conversation topic a bit odd and qualifies them as hypocrites.
4- He goes to see Changez at his new place. He loves the communal life. They go on a walk together, and Changez seems to know that Karim plays his role in his play, against his will
5- Jamila calls Karim to tell him Changez had been attacked. It turns out it was a national front gang.
6- Eleanor and Karim are being distant, they barely see each other outside the rehearsals. Karim confronts her about that, she admits they are casually having sex. They break up.
7- Karim is becoming "depressed", sick of people and the theatre. He becomes emotionally numb and feels empty.
8- After his play, Karim sees both of his parents talking to each other. He talks with Eva about them, and how happy they seem.
9- He goes to Terry, who is being jealous of his role and his participation in that play. Terry asks him next to take money from people in the theatre.
10- Changez, who came to watch the play, announces him that Jamila is having a baby (Simons), a "communal" baby.
11- Jamila confronts Karim about not showing up at the demonstration, she is very disappointed in him (again)
12- Karim walks out of the room, angry about everything. He is then being followed by a girl that watched his play, Hillary. They met Heater who wants to fight Karim. They runaway.
