Outdoor Deck Success Criteria - Coggle Diagram
Outdoor Deck Success Criteria
Aesthetics
Classy, Modern, & American Style
Not Colourful at All
Room for Decorations & Showpieces
This will allow the user more opportunities to make the product look & feel how they would like it too. It also makes the final product a bit more interesting.
Simple Material Textures & Patterns
Feels Comfortable & Relaxing
This helps to fulfill part of the purpose of designing this product and the problem identified in Ai while also being an important user requirement like the rest of the points listed here.
Customer
Fit for all Gender, Ages, & other Attributes
The clients' guests can be of any origin, gender, or age and so it's important that this is taken into consideration. The deck cannot be offensive and must serve an equal function for everyone.
Pet (Dog) Friendly
The clients own a 2-year old dog and so making sure that the product is dog (and other pet) friendly is important. This means not making the steps too high, not using dangerous materials, etc.
Simple to use for Older Users
As the Dr Mathur's parents will be using the deck often, the design must be suited towards them. No large stairs or steep slants, simple design, etc.
Cost
Close to the Clients' (undisclosed) Budget
This is a crucial user requirement as the cost of the entire deck needs to be close to the range given by the clients so that the clients can actually build the final product
Good Quality but Inexpensive Resources
The use of good quality resources is important to satisfy aesthetics & function while making them low cost will help the product stay within the clients' budget.
Environment
Uses as Few Resources as Possible
The use of fewer resources automatically means a lower carbon footprint and a lower environmental impact. So, the final product must try to use as few resources like materials, labour, manufacturing, etc. as possible
Repairable if Damaged
The design must be made in a way that any damage can be fixed without a complete redo of the product. This means the product is more sustainable in the long run and uses less material.
Reused/Recycled Resources if Possible
If there is a way to incorporate reused resources into the design, it will mean that a lower amount of new resources are consumed and that the design contributes towards recycling.
Safety
No places for insects/snakes to hide
The slits between decks are perfect hiding locations for dangerous animals and so the design should have none of these to increase safety.
Non-Toxic & Non-Flammable Materials
As the deck will be regularly used, it's important that all the materials used are not toxic in any way. Due to the need of a barbeque & other cooking equipment, everything also needs to be non-flammable
No Large Trip Hazards
Trip hazards can be dangerous for any potential users and so it's imperative that the design minimizes these to avoid injuries.
Few sharp edges or slippery surfaces
Sharp edges can result in cuts while slippery surfaces lead to falling. The design must minimize all these safety concerns and allow every user to use it with a clear mind.
Function
Serves as a Balance between Grass & Deck
Bar/Counter to serve Drinks & Food
Area for Barbeque
All of these specifications are part of the clients' requirements and must be addressed very well. Each of these impacts the initial problem identified in Ai in some way and will help to create a successful product.
Allows for a Comfortable Relaxing Experience
Size
Ergonomic Bar for Mr. Mathur's Anthropometrics
Support at least 10-12 people
Material
Aesthetic, Good Quality, & Inexpensive
Good quality materials ensure durability (also having an effect on environment) while being aesthetic is the clients' requirement. The use of inexpensive materials will allow the entire product to be as cheap as possible and fit the clients' budget.
Water & Humidity Resistant
If the design is meant to be used in the outdoors, it must be entirely rain & atmosphere proof. This means all the materials used are water resistant or are placed under shade.
Minimum Temperature Range (°C): 15 to 45
Based on my research, the average temperatures of Pune fall comfortable within this range and so it is the minimum temperature bearing requirements of the final product and the materials in it to allow it to be used year-round.
Simple Manufacturing with Basic Equipment
The COVID-19 Pandemic has made it harder for everything to be manufactured including the eventual creation of the final product. Thus, the simplest and most basic of manufacturing techniques which can be done with basic equipment without factories should be used.
Easily Cleanable (Dusting & Mopping)
Due to the accumulation of dust & other particles, the design must be made using materials which can be dusted with a cloth/broom or mopped with a mop to ensure a clean environment
