ROCK
is a naturally occurrung solid mass or aggreagte of minerals.
Second type of rocks:
SEDIMENTARY ROCKS:
weathered volcanic rocks. The small parts called debris were solved and desposited in the seam, then they compacted and turned into rock.
Terraneous: originate from pieces of broken rock.
clay(agyag)
loess(lösz) (Mezőföld)
sandstone, sand(homokkő, homok)
gravel
Chemical: went through chemical processes (solution-oldódás).
limestone: formed by geysers (Tihany).and dropstone(cseppkő)
bauxite(bauxit) the ore (érc) of aluminium
salt(Parajd -Romania, Salzburg -Austria)
Organic: formed from fossils (dead animals).
dolomite(dolomit) (Gellért-hegy)
peatlignitebrowncoalblack coal(tőzeglignitbarnakőszénfeketekőszén)
limestone(mészkő) (Aggteleki-karst, Bakony)
oil, natural gas(kőolaj, földgáz)C)
First type of rocks:
IGNEOUS ROCKS
They originate inside the Earth where they are under great pressure. They form when the rock cools and soldifies. Crystals form on cooling and the rocks are called crystalline rocks.
INTRUSIVE
: This type of rocks solidifiesunder the surface of the earth. They have time to solidify,so big minerals were formed. Each extrusive rock has its intrusive pair(same silica –SiO2content):
granite
: the intrusive pair of rhyolite. It contains quartz (white), feldspar (pink) and mica (black) minerals. (Velencei Mts.).
diorite
: the intrusive pair of andesite (Tatra Mts.-Slovakia)
gabbro
: the
pair of basalt
EXTRUSIVE
: they are formed from the lava.
antresite:
grey rock with bigger minerals.(Mátra, Börzsöny)
ryolite
: a light coloured rock rich in quartz (Zempléni Mts)
basalt
: hard, dark coloured rock containing small minerals. It is used for pavingroads.(Badacsony, Szent GyörgyHill, Giants’ Causeway)
Third type of rocks:
METAMORPHIC ROCKS
: the rocks change because of the high pressure: either in texture or crystals.
slate(pala): originates from clay
graphite: a form of carbon
mica(Soproni Mts.)
marble(márvány):originates from limestone (Carrara -Italy)
diamond: a form of carbon (South Africa)
