MEDICAL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMEN
Equipment Type
Type BF
Same like B but with isolated or floating (F-type) applied part.
Type CF
A higher degree of protection against electric shock then type BF, particularly with regard to allowable leakage currents and having floating applied parts.
Type B
Particular degree of protection against electric shock, particularly regarding allowable leakage current and reliability of the protection earth connection
Equipment Class
Class II Equipment
Protection against electric shock
{Double insulation} The basic protection is afforded by the first layer of insulation. If the basic protection fail then supplementary protection is provided by second layer
{Reinforced insulation} Single layer of insulating offering the same degree of protection against electric shock as double insulation
Fused at the equipment end of the supply lead in either mains conductor or in both conductors if the equipment has a functional earth.
Class III Equipment
Protection against electric shock relies on the fact that no voltage higher than safety extra low voltage (SELV) present.
Battery operated or supplied by a SELV transformer
When battery or equipment powered by SELV transformer is capable of being operated when connected to the mains then it must be safety test as either class I or class II equipment
Class I Equipment
Have protective earth
Have fused at the equipment end of the main supply lead (Live & Neutral)
