It benefitted the Chinese because of Champa Rice. The spread of Champa Rice from Vietnam to China was through Buddhist monks. Due to the fact that Champa Rice was able to grow in versatile conditions that other crops were not able to grow in and led to terrace farming, it became highly popular throughout China. The plus side to this new method of farming through the usage of Champa rice was that society was able to better maximize their limited space, producing more calories and energy than before terrace farming existed. As Champa rice could be grown year long and produced large quantities in comparison to other crops, it was able to feed more people, which led to the formation of larger communities, overall increasing the population in China.
