Impact on body system:
Digestive/Reproductive/Urinary system: kidney failure, liver damage, gallstones, priapism
Immune system: damaged spleen, pneumonia, bladder infections, etc.
Cardiovascular: stroke, acute chest syndrome
Integumentary system: jaundice, leg sores, ulcers
Skeletal system: stunted growth, bone loss, avascular necrosis

Clinical Manifestations
Sudden pain in lower back, limbs, chest, and abdomen (exacerbated by stress, sickness, dehydration, temperature)
frequent infections, delayed growth, vision problems, etc.
Early signs: fatigue, jaundice
Risk Factors:
Genetics (2 parents with the recessive gene) or a parent with sickle cell anemia
More common in African Americans
