Petroleum traps
A configuration of rock suitable for containing hydrocarbons and sealed by a relatively impermeable formation through which hydrocarbons will not migrate
Two basic types
- Structural traps which is formed because of a deformation in the rock layer that contains the hydrocarbons
- Stratigraphic traps which is formed by lithological changes during or after deposition
