RESERVOIR, SEAL & TRAP
CHARACTERISTICS OF RESERVOIR
1. Porosity
Measure of rock's void space
2. Permeability
Porous medium having ability to transmit fluid through it.
3. Fluid Saturation
Is a fraction or % of pore vol occupied by fluid
4. Wettability
Tendency of a fluid to spread on / adhere to solid surface.
5. Surface & Interfacial Tension
Is a acting force between 2 liquids
6. Capillary Pressure
Pressure differential between 2 fluid phases in the same pores
7. Rock Compressibility
Fractional change in vol / unit change in pressure
Compressive force is applied to overburden weight in reservoir rock.
CHARACTERISTICS OF SEAL & TRAP
Seal
Impermeable sediment layer
Commonly be porous
Known as cap rock
Trap
Must be overlain by effective seal
May hv oil, gas or both
Types of traps:
:!: Structural Trap
Fault trap
Folding (Anticlines)
Salt dome
:!: Stratigraphic Trap
Unconformity trap
Pinchout trap
Lens trap
:!: Combination
