Tim Darvill samples
Samples at Southampton
Kate will contact Alasdair Pike about them
Chris Webster used to be technician at Soton, but moved on to South-west Heritage
Contact him to see if he would remember where samples were kept
Would be good to reuse samples and compare to my own thin-sections from Bath
Data management plan
Read papers by Fabio and another person (Philip Riris?) from department who use R
Follow publishing conventions of R work and data that they use
If still unclear, just send them an email and arrange a chat
Draft up plan and submit by end of week
Meeting with Stephen
Prepare and practice a 5 minute presentation ahead of metting; make sure is only 5 minutes!
Submit proposal and appendix to Stephen today alongside other supervisors
Ask Susan about tiles at base of reservoir, and if there are any tile/stone courses that fell into reservoir and are preserved
Progress with literature review
Started writing
Submit entire draft by end of next week
Great Bath roofing
Just a few incoherent thoughts, but which way were box tile used and why? Is this supported by all the evidence?
Tracy Park kiln site
Contacted Stephen and Susan, and then contacted Bristol Museum
All leads have been exhausted with no success, so only thing remaining is visit to site and collection of any stray CBM fragments
CBM dating at the Roman Baths
Must be careful, as so much potential for curation and reuse of tiles, e.g. as drains, in roofs, as rubble, in mortar etc.
Type of thing that will be asked about during viva
Plaster/mortar from Period II bath actually has potential to shed light on early CBM through examination of fragments
