Cervix: entry to the uterus.
The Menstrual Cycle (Period):
Day 4-13: Egg mature and endometrium thickens
Female Reproductive System:
Ovary: produce egg and female sex hormone - oestrogen
Uterus: where a fertilised egg grows and develops into a baby
Vagina: holds the penis during intercourse and is the birth canal
Day 1-5: Menstruation (period) and a new egg starts to develop
Fallopian Tube: carries egg to the uterus. fertilisation occur here
Penis: transfers sperm into the vagina during sexual intercourse
Pregnancy:
Day 14: Ovulation (egg is released from ovary into Fallopian tube). the egg has approx. 48 hours to be fertilised or it will die.
Male Reproductive System:
Seminal Gland: produces seminal fluid
Scrotum: holds testes and keeps them at 25oC, the ideal temperature for sperm production.
Testicle: produces sperm and the male sex hormone - testosterone
Sperm duct: carries sperm and seminal fluid
Day 14-28: lining in the uterus is maintained
Embryo passes to Mother: Urea, Water, CO2
Mother passes to Embryo: Nutrients, Antibodies,O2
