Book Review
Format: The Name of the book and author. And brief summary of the book.
Formal/Informal:They are informal
Audience: The Audience is avid book readers.
Purpose: To inform people about books.
Vocabulary and Structuring: Paragraphs summarising the book.
Journal Entry
Format: They are chronological.
Formal/Informal: They are informal
Audience:The person writing
Purpose: To reflect on or remember past days.
Vocabulary and structuring: In different paragraphs or one whole para.
Magazine Article
Format: A body paragraph with heading and title.
Formal/Informal: They are Informal
Audience: People who are interested in the topic and title
Purpose: To provide information about the heading or topic.
Vocabulary and Structuring: The introduction and information about the topic then the end.
Blog
Format: The Introduction the body and information about topic.
Formal/Informal: Often Informal
Audience: Internet users interested in the topic.
Purpose: For people to view articles on topics they are interested in on the Internet.
Vocabulary and Structuring: Heading, Introduction then paragraphs containing different information about the topic.
Leaflet
Format: It is printed on a sheet of paper including different graphics.
Formal/Informal: They are Informal
Audience: They are for potential customers and leaflets are easy to distribute.
Purpose: They are used to spread information about something or to advertise something.
Vocabulary and Structuring: With attractive language, graphics and easy to read paragraphs.
Autobiography
Format: It is chronological, it is the life writing of the author by the author
Formal/Informal: The author can choose for it to be formal or informal
Audience: The family, friends and relatives
Purpose: To make a recollection on the life experiences and achievements.
Vocabulary and Structuring: To make a full recollection of your life with interesting language and vocabulary.
Advertisement
Format: The price, description of the product in an easy to read font or paragraph.
Formal/Informal: They can be Informal.
Audience: Anyone interested in the product
Vocabulary and Structuring: In attractive language, containing interesting points on the product.
Formal Letter
Format: Heading and body with points.
Formal/Informal: It is Formal.
Audience: The person receiving the letter.
Purpose: To provide information or to convey a message to the recipient.
Vocabulary and Structuring: The name of the recipient, the greeting, introduction, the body and the ending with salutations.
Novel
Format: With a beginning, middle and end
Formal/Informal: It includes both elements of formal and informal writing.
Audience: The people interested in the topic.
Purpose: To entertain or to tell a story.
Vocabulary and Structuring: The story and the plot. Include interesting language.
Haiku
Format: three lines with 17 syllables.
Formal/Informal: They are Formal
Audience: People who read haiku
Purpose: To share a brief moment of an event.
Vocabulary and Structuring: the 5, 7, 5 syllable structure of the three lines.
