Falling birth rates in Singapore
Baby products
baby bonus
not sufficient and could only sustain for a limited amount of months
bonus given is not enough to support parents
baby products
young couples generally have a lot to pay for, hence baby products is another element that would be added to the list when couples consider about having a baby
there are many baby products such as strollers, baby clothes and baby crate are only beneficial for the first few years. It would no longer serve any purpose after the baby has grown and hence these baby products are only for short term but are still expensive
Rise in cost of living
healthcare
couples may not afford to go for regular check ups for their child
housing
the cost of property is also increasing and couples may not have enough room for more kids
More career minded
Less married couples
some Singaporeans are too focused on their job that they neglect finding for a spouse
One / two children is enough
birth rate has rapidly decline because women of this generation do not give birth to as many kids as our pioneer generation. the common houses in Singapore now such as HDB are not enough to fit 13 kids.
Get married at a later age
lower chance of getting pregnant as fertility would drop
Not family oriented
simply do not find the purpose of getting a baby and would much rather focus on work
Solutions
use hand down baby products
it would be more cost saving if couples have relatives/family members that no longer use the baby products so it could be passed down to them
couples could search for second hand baby products are they are cheaper
start saving up early for future family
the younger generation could plan ahead and save up more for their future family so the cost of raising a child would not be a worry to them
Subsidies and insurance
couples should go to public sector hospital vs private as there are more subsidies and insurance could be used
more baby bonus
although the government has given new parents $3,000 bonus, it would help if the bonus were to be increased
