Defunding the police
In a survey of 1500 Americans, 40% believe that the police should be defunded. Concerns regarding the under-protection and over-regulation of Black commuinities may be threatening the public support that the police reply upon. Jackson et al (2020).

Death Penalty
88% of criminologists do not believe it's an effective deterrent (Radelet & Lacock, 2009).
In 2008, 91% of politicians supported death penalty to appear tough on crime (Deathpenalty.org, 2019).
In USA since 1976, there was 1490 deaths up until the end of 2018, 25 were executed in 2018 within 8 states.
Mental Health
Prisons in some countries are seen as dumping grounds for some
patients with mental health disorders. (WHO 2020).

Treatment programmes
Anger management (Ireland, 2000).
Empathy training (Szifris, 2018).

Academic programmes, vocational courses, employment opportunities.
In prison: cognitive skills training (Friendship et al, 2002).
The clients who stand to benefit the most from treatment (i.e., high-risk, high-needs) are the least likely to complete it (Olver, Stockdale & Wormith, 2011).
Some researchers say that the field of sexual offender treatment is too new to be able to determine whether or not treatment works (Alexander, 1999).
