THROMBOCYTOPENIA

Thrombocytopenia is defined as a reduction in the peripheral
blood platelet count below the lower limit of normal i.e. below
150,000/microliters
Abnormal bleeding :
- spontaneous skin purpura and
- mucosal haemorrhage,
- prolonged bleeding after trauma
Spontaneous haemorrhages becomes clinically evident only after
severe platelet depletion
( below 20,000/microliters)
