Group B: Students (demonstrated some knowledge of the topic but need to develop higher order thinking)
Group B be called: Experimental scientists - Encourages them to gain more practical knowledge of the topic at hand.
Differentiated activity: The group will be asked to go to 3 workstations for the parts of the nervous system (i.e: brain, spinal cord, and nerves). The students can choose which station interests them the most. Short summary and passages about the parts of the nervous system can be found in each station.
Monitoring: Think-Pair-Share - The students from different groups will have free time to share what they learnt to another group, teacher will monitor their progression on understanding and grasp of key concepts.
Differentiated activity: The students will rotate their stations, but this time they can choose a partner with whom they can learn another part of the nervous system.
Monitoring: The students can use post-it notes to write down what they learnt so far, the purpose of the post-it note is to keep their statements simplified hence to demonstrate their understanding. They can also pose questions during their workstation activity on the post-it notes.
Differentiated activity:The students' original workstation can create a small poster to summarize what they learnt from their short reading/discussion/research. The poster can summarize their key findings in 5 to 6 sentences in bullet points.

Group C: Students with limited knowledge, who are struggling with language at different reading levels,or have little to no comprehension of topic and potential special needs students)

Students who can only identify the nervous system or even unable to identify the correct diagram depicting the nervous system would be placed as Applied Scientists.
-
The students who can read the scientific terminologies on this diagram, but can also explain to the teacher some basic functions (to the best of their abilities) of the parts of the nervous system would be grouped into the Theoretical Scientists.

For the students who can correctly identify all three parts of the nervous system, but struggle to explain what the function each organ serves, they would be grouped in the Experimental Scientist.
